I agree with the guy a couple above me. Those 'Bourne' movies give me a headache. Those fight scenes and car chase scenes are hard to watch. |

Shows that try to be "docu-dramas" have turned to this style of photography. But it's a real annoyance for larger TV screens and projectors because there is so much sway |

Yeah, it's a recent trend in movies to have a very active camera. I believe the directors think it makes things seem more realistic. It may be more dynamic but since my eyes can focus on an object when I'm running, driving, jumping up and down, getting punched, etc. it doesn't. In my opinion it's nothing more than laziness and rather than causing you to become absorbed in the action I think it makes you even more aware that you're watching a movie. The Bourne Supremacy was especially bad with this. |

Yes... camera shaking is these days considered a creative technique. Sometimes its intended to simply suggest that the camera is handheld, but usually it's to draw the viewer in -- kind of suggesting a viewer's point of view.
Rest assured, it's more or less a fad, and always intentional. Handheld cameras have long been used in films, and particular, on television. However, generally they used with a SteadyCam device -- a cool toy based on gyroscopes and leverage that makes a hand-held camera behave more or less as if it's mounted on rails.
What's more, sometimes that handheld camera look is added in post production -- the editor and director have a steadycam shot, and they intentionally add just the desired amount of "shake" via an effect. |

You may have vertigo. But yes they are. Ever since NYPD Blue used it to make their show edgier, many directors have went the way of trackless cameras (handheld). |
